Privacy Mode is Subtle's setting for controlling whether your Dictation Data is retained and used to improve Subtle's AI models. Here's what it means in plain language.
What is Dictation Data?
Dictation Data includes the audio you record, the transcripts Subtle generates from it, and any edits you make to those transcripts. It's everything that flows through Subtle's voice processing pipeline.
Privacy Mode ON (recommended for maximum privacy)
- Subtle does not store your Dictation Data after processing
- Your Dictation Data is not used to train or improve Subtle's AI models
- Subtle may still collect limited, non-content usage statistics (e.g. that you used dictation, not what you said)
- AI features still work fully — this setting only affects data retention and training, not functionality
Privacy Mode OFF
- Subtle may retain your Dictation Data and use it to evaluate, train, and improve its AI models
- Retention is "as long as needed" unless you delete it earlier via account deletion or data request
How to change the setting
- Open the Subtle app → Settings → Data and Privacy.
- Toggle Privacy Mode ON or OFF.
- The change applies going forward — it doesn't retroactively affect data already processed under the previous setting.
