Firmware updates watch themselves: if something goes wrong, the app stops and tells you what happened rather than spinning forever. Find the message you're seeing below.
"Battery Too Low"
The update refuses to start when either Voicebud is under the minimum charge. Charge both Voicebuds to at least the percentage shown, then try again.
"Download Failed" or "Update Check Failed"
The update couldn't be fetched. Check your Wi-Fi or cellular connection and tap the update control again — the check and download are safe to retry.
"Update Stalled" or "Installation Failed"
If an install stops making progress, the app fails it within about 30 seconds and offers a retry — you don't need to wait it out. Follow the on-screen guidance:
- Put both buds in the case.
- Close the lid, then reopen it.
- Try the update again.
Interrupted installs are safe — the update transfers and verifies before anything is applied, and a retry picks up cleanly.
Stuck on "Wrapping Up"
Wrapping Up is the restart-and-reconnect step at the end. Keep the case lid open; if the buds lose connection here (for example, the lid was closed), the app shows reconnect help within about 45 seconds — follow it.
If two retries fail
Stop and contact support rather than retrying repeatedly. Email support@subtle.co or submit a request with: your current firmware version (Voicebuds settings → About), the exact message on screen ("Update Stalled", "Installation Failed", …), and the battery levels shown in Voicebuds settings.
